On Tuesday, June 9, we will be having a test on 3D measurement. This will involve calculating the volume of a rectangular prism (V= length x width x height), converting between millilitres and litres, milligrams and grams and kilograms, and vice versa, as well as recognizing the relationship between volume and capacity. For example, an object with a volume of 100cm3
would displace 100mL of water.

Decimals and Point of View
In math we are currently working on decimals and their relationship with fractions. There will not be a test, but rather an in-school assignment that students will be working on this week. I have included a link to a video that effectively outlines the concepts we are working on.

Fractions Test
On Friday, April 17 there will be a math test based on the fractions material we have covered over the past three weeks. This test will cover these topics: finding equivalent fractions, finding the simplest form of fractions, finding and comparing fractions on a number line, converting mixed numbers and improper fractions, and comparing mixed numbers and improper fractions.

Fractions!
We have begun our math unit on fractions. We have looked at comparing and ordering fractions as well as equivalent fractions and fractions on a number line. I am including a sample problem solving question that we worked on in class today. Feel free to go over it with your child!

3D Geometry
We will have a short 3D geometry assessment this Thursday. Students will need to know how how to match 3D figures with their nets, the definitions of pyramids and prisms, how to describe 3D figures (number and shape of faces, number of vertices and edges). Necessary information and example questions can be found in work they have completed and the homework that was assigned yesterday.

Writing Assignment - Persuasive Letter and Math - 3D Geometry
Hello!
Today, the students were introduced to their next writing assignment. They will each be producing a persuasive letter. It is a very structured piece of writing and today we looked at this structure and began brainstorming topic ideas. Parents can help in this process, if they wish, by doing some brainstorming of topic ideas together and perhaps assisting with some research to help find supporting details, facts, and examples.
Our next math unit is relatively short and will focus on geometric properties of 3D shapes. Students will need to know how to identify and classify 3D shapes. Eg. is this shape a pyramid or a prism? Which pyramid or prism is it? Or, describe how many faces, edges, and vertices a rectangular prism, etc. has.
